Brake Servicing Advice

Using the latest diagnostic equipment, our experienced technicians at can conduct a comprehensive inspection of your car’s braking system, so we can advise you on any repairs or service items that are necessary, ensuring the best possible performance and safety.

Hopefully, the following tips should help you gain a better understanding of where your brakes are at and when you should be giving the Keys Road Auto Service team a call.

When or how often should you service your brakes?

The importance of regular brake servicing cannot be understated. Regular brake servicing helps to ensure your brakes are in good condition. Brakes should be inspected by a qualified technician at a minimum once every 12 months & more regularly if you accumulate the miles on your vehicle. We conduct a comprehensive brake inspection every time you service your vehicle with us.

How do you know when there is a problem with your brakes and when a service or repair is due?

There are a number of red flags that will indicate to you when the time is right to have your brakes looked at. That said, if you answer ‘Yes’ to any of the below questions, then you should contact us straight away!

  • Do you hear a grinding, scraping or squealing when you push your brake pedal?
  • Does your brake pedal feels soft or spongy when you press it?
  • Does the brake pedal feel harder to press than usual?
  • Does the steering wheel shake or the entire vehicle vibrate when you apply pressure to the brake pedal?
  • Does your car pull to one side when braking?
  • Are you noticing it is taking longer for your car to stop when pulling up to an intersection?
  • Is there any smell or smoke coming from the wheels of your vehicle?
  • Do you have a brake warning light illuminated on your dash board?
  • Does your park brake hold your vehicle stationary when not in gear?

What are the consequences of not servicing or maintaining your brakes on a regular basis?

The brakes on our vehicles are there to slow the vehicle down, allowing us to stop safely. In urgent situations, brakes can stop a vehicle abruptly, avoiding collisions with other vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists or in any other unforeseen situation. A vehicle with brakes that do not work properly can be extremely scary to drive and are a hazard to all road users not just the occupants of that particular vehicle.
